The PaleoLab program is a brand new summer program where middle school and high school aged students are able to learn about paleoanthropology and paleontology from experts in the field such as Zeray Alemseged and Paul Sereno. Students learned in an engaging and hands-on environment, with real research labs and the Field Museum serving as their classroom.

During this session, students learned about the concepts of evolution and how Homo sapiens evolved. They also learned about how data is collected in the field, from the process of digging and gathering fossils, to scanning and analyzing them using virtual anthropology. After exploring for themselves the hundreds of casts and 3D prints of fossils, students were able to see the lab’s very own 3D printer in action.
